ShoutOut Arizona – Meet Jason Brody, Restaurant Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Brody and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

Starting my own business was a culmination of my lifelong journey in the hospitality industry and a deep-rooted passion for creating a community hub. Growing up in Arizona, I began working at Nick’s Italian when I was just 15, which instilled in me a love for the hospitality industry. My educational background in Business Management and International Business from Arizona State University further equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful business.

With 20 years of experience at Nick’s Italian and invaluable mentorship from the owner, Nick, I was inspired to take over the restaurant and transform it into Brody’s Italian.

My thought process was driven by a desire to maintain and elevate the restaurant’s legacy while creating a place that embodies quality, consistency, and a sense of community. Anchored by the philanthropic values imparted by my father, Jamie Brody, I aimed to build a business that not only serves exceptional Italian cuisine but also gives back to the community and fosters strong relationships with staff and patrons. Brody’s Italian is more than just a restaurant; it’s a tribute to my journey, my mentors, and the community that has always supported me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

We’re a neighborhood Italian restaurant that prides itself on having the same talented chefs for 20 years. We emphasize fresher and healthier versions of Italian classics, all made from scratch daily. Our incredible wine list and cocktail program offer something for everyone.

My journey to where I am today has been fueled by my passion for the industry, dedication, and drive. As a people person, I’ve always loved attracting and retaining customers, which has led to many lifelong friendships that I’m extremely thankful for. These relationships have taught me a lot. The food and beverage industry is notoriously challenging, with daily obstacles to overcome. However, I’ve always managed to navigate tough situations and enjoy the ride. No two days are ever the same, and the dynamic nature of this industry suits me perfectly. When times get tough, I remind myself that this journey is part of my plan to get to where I am now. My dedication and hard work are never done, and I can’t wait to continue climbing the mountain.

I want the world to know that you are only as good as your team—the people protecting you and working hard for you. Without my staff, I am nothing. Many leaders don’t value their staff enough or treat them properly, but I learned at a young age that they are the most important part of my business. I go above and beyond for them, and I am deeply appreciative and thankful for each and every one of them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I love to eat, have great cocktails and wine, golf, and check out sporting events.

Eat – BRODY’S ITALIAN, Thea, Steak 44, City Hall, Pizzeria Bianco, Houston’s

Drink – BRODY’S ITALIAN, Jade Bar, Ocean Club, Tell Your Friends

Golf – Whisper Rock, Mountain Shadows

Sporting Events – Diamondbacks, Suns, Cardinals, Arizona State Athletic Events

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I dedicate this shoutout to my mama—without her, I am nothing. She brought me into this world and continues to provide all the love, encouragement, and guidance a person could ever need. She’s my rock, and I can’t say enough about how much she means to me. I strive every day to be the best person I can be and work as hard as possible to make her and my late father proud. Their unwavering support and belief in me are the foundations of my success.
